Tyler Otterspoor is the founder and owner of Ivy League Electric, a Burlington-based electrical contracting company serving residential, commercial, and industrial clients throughout the Hamilton–Halton region. Built on a foundation of reliability, craftsmanship, and customer service, the company has grown from a one-person operation into a trusted team of 15 skilled professionals focused on delivering high-quality electrical solutions and long-term value for clients.
Tyler’s path in the skilled trades began through a high school co-op placement that led into a full-time apprenticeship through Ontario’s Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP). That early experience not only launched his career but continues to shape his commitment to developing and mentoring the next generation of electricians. After graduating from Mohawk College with Dean’s Honour Roll distinction, Tyler achieved a 96% on the Ontario Master Electrician examination before earning his Licensed Electrical Contractor designation and establishing Ivy League Electric.
Under his leadership, the company has expanded its capabilities beyond traditional electrical contracting to include low-voltage systems and advanced lighting solutions. As an early adopter of permanent architectural lighting, Ivy League Electric has become a recognized regional installer of Celebright Canada systems, delivering customized exterior lighting solutions for residential and commercial properties.
Beyond business growth, Tyler places strong emphasis on community involvement. In celebration of Ivy League Electric’s 10-year anniversary, the company partnered with the Burlington Dads Group on a community fundraising initiative that raised over $10,000 for local charities, with Ivy League Electric matching donations to bring a total contribution of $20,000.
Looking ahead, Tyler is committed to expanding his involvement in both community and industry leadership, including participation with organizations such as the Ontario Electrical League. He continues to focus on building a business that creates opportunity, supports workforce development, and contributes meaningfully to the community he serves. Tyler resides in the Hamilton area with his wife, Natalie, and their daughters, Harper and Lily.
