John Jae Woo Lee, a native of Torrance, California, has transformed his early passion for computing and leadership into a remarkable career in technology and community service. A graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, John earned a degree in Computer Engineering with minors in Applied Mathematics and Behavioral Psychology. He distinguished himself by founding several social and professional societies, demonstrating exceptional leadership as the President of his dorm, the Korean American Student Association, and as the founder of Sigma Phi Delta, a professional engineering fraternity. His versatility is further exemplified by his achievements as a student-athlete on the Cal Poly Triathlon Team and as a National Collegiate DoTA2 Champion.
Professionally, John’s journey began at Amazon Lab126, where he worked on low-level firmware and consumer electronics. Concurrently, he carved a niche as an influencer, gaining popularity as a ‘fit-nerd’ under the alias ‘WhatDrivesJohn.’ As a Twitch Partner, John faced a pivotal decision between streaming and his engineering career. Choosing the latter, he became an early engineer at Caffeine.tv, eventually leading as the head of product engineering.
