Rachel Brownlow-Hewett is the founder of Fynbos bakery. Named after the Fynbos Region of her homeland, Fynbos Bakery has been a success in her town of residence, Carleton Place, Ontario. Rachel was born and raised in South Africa and takes great pride in her heritage, seeking to bring an authentic taste of her homeland into all that she does.
Rachel first started her business during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2021, looking to spread joy with delicious custom cakes for every occasion. Since the founding of Fynbos Bakery, Rachel has since established her bakery as a one-stop-shop for all your custom cake needs as well as a supplier of authentic South African baked goods.
Rachel attended Capsicum Culinary Studio in South Africa and received her qualification through City and Guilds as a Pastry Chef. Her education and experience provided her with the opportunity to attend masterclasses with chefs such as Gordon Ramsey and Adriano Zumbo.
Fynbos Bakery has been the well-deserved recipient of the prestigious Canadian Choice Award for 2024 and 2025. She has also been nominated for the Solopreneur award with the Carleton Place and District Chamber of Commerce in 2024.
Rachel has always taken great pride in offering her clients only the best, using the motto, “I will only serve you something I would be ecstatic to receive.”, her clients never have a bad word to say after they taste her creations. Her creativity and attention to detail make every confection she produces, a masterpiece.
