Dr. Giuseppe Di Gioia was born in Lucera, a small town in southern Italy. He began his medical studies in 2004 at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, graduating summa cum laude in 2010. He later specialized in Cardiology and Vascular Diseases at the same university, again with summa cum laude, in 2016.
Since then, Dr. Di Gioia has focused on Sport Cardiology. He has been working at the Institute of Medicine and Sport Science of CONI, the medical division of the Italian National Olympic Committee. As a team cardiologist, he has overseen cardiovascular evaluations for elite athletes at major international events, including the Rio 2016, PyeongChang 2018, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, among others.
He collaborates with the Italian Athletics Federation and has served as the official cardiologist for the “Golden Gala” national athletics event since 2016. His clinical work is dedicated to ensuring the cardiovascular health of elite athletes across multiple disciplines, including football, swimming, basketball, tennis, and volleyball.
As a member of the Italian Olympic Medical Team, Dr. Di Gioia is actively engaged in research on athlete’s heart remodeling, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, lipid disorders, and sudden cardiac death prevention.
He is the author of over 90 scientific publications in leading journals such as Circulation, European Heart Journal, and International Journal of Cardiology. In 2025, he obtained a specialization in Sports Medicine in Bucharest and holds multiple certifications in advanced cardiac and vascular imaging.
His achievements have earned him awards including the VIHA “Young Researcher in Sport Cardiology” (India, 2022), the European Award in Medicine (Paris, 2023), and the Rotary Excellence Award (Italy, 2025).
