Simon Lafleur is the founder and CEO of Sunbird Energy, a Montréal-based company delivering intelligent energy management solutions for the commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors. The company helps organizations rethink how they consume energy by enabling on-site solar generation and energy storage, all managed through a platform that provides visibility and control over energy use.
Through Sunbird Energy, Simon has developed an Energy-as-a-Service model that combines physical energy infrastructure with a software-driven energy management layer, enabling real-time optimization of energy production, storage, and consumption. This approach allows clients to access high-performance energy systems without upfront capital investment, while improving cost predictability and operational efficiency in an increasingly complex energy landscape.
A graduate in engineering from École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montréal, Simon anticipated Québec’s energy paradigm shift as early as 2020, recognizing the transition from surplus electricity to a more constrained and dynamic energy landscape.
Since then, he has focused on developing and deploying integrated renewable energy solutions that enable organizations to actively manage their energy profile, better leverage on-site generation, and adapt to increasingly constrained and evolving grid conditions, while also contributing to grid stability during peak demand periods.
Simon is actively engaged in Québec’s evolving energy landscape, contributing to industry and institutional discussions on decentralized energy production, helping position energy management as a core efficiency lever, and working with stakeholders across the ecosystem to advance more flexible, distributed, and resilient energy systems while supporting broader energy transition efforts.
