Ajla Sunje Sabanovic

CEO at Chicago Vein Institute Sarajevo

Ajla Sunje Sabanovic was born in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, but her childhood was shaped by the turmoil of war, leading her family to relocate first to Kuwait and then to Chicago, USA. After completing her education, including a master’s degree at Northwestern University, Ajla returned to her homeland with a clear vision. She established the Chicago Vein Institute in Sarajevo, a specialized medical facility dedicated to diagnosing and treating venous disorders in the lower extremities. Originally founded in Chicago in 2004 by her father, the Chicago Vein Institute became a family business that Ajla sought to expand into a global brand. With a strong commitment to providing high-quality care, she has made a significant impact in her community, skillfully blending her international experience with a deep understanding of local healthcare needs. Her journey embodies resilience and a dedication to improving lives through medicine.

Ajla has successfully contributed to the expansion of the Chicago Vein Institute to three locations—two in the United States and one in Bosnia and Herzegovina—and is currently working on opening a fourth office in Zagreb, Croatia. Her vision is to establish the Chicago Vein Institute as a global leader in the field of venous disorders. In addition to expanding the brand, Ajla is developing a line of products specifically designed for individuals with venous conditions. Her dream extends beyond business; she aims to position Bosnia and Herzegovina as a relevant destination for medical tourism, showcasing its capabilities in high-quality healthcare. With her dedication and innovative approach, Ajla is determined to make a significant mark on the global medical landscape.
